Model: Deco X55
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.5.5

When clients connect, they use the Deco for DNS.  When 2 clients are both connected to the Deco, the Deco sees and recognizes them.

(redacted) is the other computer name, of course.

When I try to ping 1 to the other by name, I get a failure:

Command: ping (redacted)

Result: ping: cannot resolve (redacted): Unknown host

When using nslookup to query the DNS server, this error:

(my Deco is using 192.168.1.1)

Command: nslookup (redacted)

Result: Server: 192.168.1.1

Address: 192.168.1.1#53

** server can't find (redacted): NXDOMAIN

I can ping directly by IP address and connects that way.  And NO, that is not the answer since that defeats the purpose of DNS.

Since the Deco knows both clients, what is broken in the Deco's DNS and why will it not return the IP address when queried?

@HelpFixDecoApp Thank you for trying to respond.  I already did that and received an answer unrelated to my actual question.

Upon replying, have yet to receive a response, so my confidence level in the brand is pretty low at the moment.

  @networkingfun

Hi, Thank you very much for your time and patience.

Deco doesn't support local DNS resolution. It can't resolve the local hostnames directly to its IP addresses. The device name on the Deco App is recognized by the MAC address.

Currently, Deco cannot directly resolve local domain names but it would forward these mDNS packets to the corresponding devices (if your devices support it). This way, you can still use the device hostname such as "test.local" to discover and access the device.

Thanks again and best regards.
