Model: Archer BE550
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.7, 1.0.8, & 1.0.9

Since I have installed this router I have not been able to play Call of Duty Modern Warfare III. While it isn't the best game in the world, it is the core game that my group of gaming friends play.

  • My PC is hardwired to the BE550.
  • I have configured port forwarding for COD as described by Activision (for PC since I use Battledotnet), in the game my NAT type is Open.
    • Search for "ports-used-for-call-of-duty-games" to see the Activision support article
  • I have reinstalled the game.
  • I have verified files in the Battledotnet launcher.
  • I have tried different DNS providers (Xfinity, OpenDNS, Quad9).
  • Other games work and I have yet to find anyone else having the problem at the moment.
  • UPnP is on in the BE550.

My previous router (TP-Link AX11000) is boxed up because I am moving soon. I wanted to get the BE550 up and running so I could have it ready to go for the new place.

Every attempt to play results in this error:

Server Disconnected

You have been disconnected from the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III servers. Please try again or visit ....onlineservices for updates.

Spoiler alert: All services show as good/great/grand/wonderful anytime I check that page.

Anyone have any ideas of what I could do to resolve this?

Dug out the AX11000 this afternoon and everything worked right away. I'm typing this reply with the game running in the background for the last 15 minutes.

I'll give 1 firmware update a shot for the BE550 if my return window permits. Love the feature set, especially the IOT network. However, if it doesn't work for me and my use case, it gets returned and I look elsewhere.

I just put the BE550 back in to play and confirmed that all the settings mirror the AX11000 and Call of Duty does not work.

I upgraded to firmware 1.0.9 which has the OFDMA+MU-MIMO fix and that did not resolve the issue. The game still crashes within a minute of launching with the Server Disconnected issue.

I also downgraded to firmware 1.0.7 and the issue is still present.

  @NotAnotherZeke

This would be a concern we would need to have engineering investigate.  The best way to do that would be to email support at support.usa@tp-link.com with the details so they can review and escalate to the engineering team.

@NotAnotherZeke Quick update for all those who might find this thread.

The issues was IPv6. Turned that off and everything was fine.

Things were a little unstable with the 1.08 firmware, so I downloaded 1.09 from the website and everything is great now.
