Today would be a good day for someone at @TP-Link_US to clarify the differences, hardware and functional, between these versions.

Still waiting on an answer to this.

Evidently, a v2.6 node will not pair to a mesh with v1.6 nodes. So there appears to be an inherent incompatibility between these hardware versions.

@Napsterbater Not sure if this helps but I am running v1.6 on my main and v2.6 on a satelitte. I asked support chat the difference and this is what they said

"Actually, the basic functions and features are the same on both versions, only the package and product label were updated for the general product iteration. Firmware are different as each hardware version normally faces different bugs, so to avoid easily isolate cases our developers decided to produce different hardware version."

Didnt know package and product label could introduce new bugs.... But as expected support would not be aware pf the diffrences.
