Model: Archer AX55
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.3 Build 20230603 rel.46473(5553)

The sticker on the bottom of my AX55 and on the box it came in says that the hardware is version 1.6.

The firmware update screen says that the hardware version is 1.0.

The download site has different firmware files for V1 and V1.60:

V1 -      AX55(US)_V1_1.2.3 Build 20230603

V1.60 - AX55(US)_V1.6_1.2.3 Build 20230603

What is the real hardware version and which firmware file should I be using?

Hi, actually V1.6 is equal to V1.0 for Archer AX55, and you will also be able to see related explanation on the official website, so in your case, the V1.0 firmware and V1.6 firmware is actually the same, since the firmware is also available under V1.6 version, you could download the V1.6 firmware directly.

  @Sunshine

Thank you. The presence of 2 hardware version options on the download page and different names for each download led me to believe that they were actually different. It wasn't until I tried the download that I discovered that the files behind the link names were, in fact, the same.

Maybe moving that hardware version note to up by the hardware version drop-down box and removing the multiple options for a single actual version would be less confusing.

@Sunshine  I had the exact same problem trying to update the firmware for a used AX50 I recently purchased.

The label on the bottom says Ver 1.8

The Device Information screen says the Hardware Version is v1.0

On the firmware download page for the AX50, there is an option for hardware V1 and V1.80.

If I pick hardware version V1.80, it lists a firmware file with the name Archer AX50(US)_V1.8_230907. Does that mean that V1.80 and V1.8 mean the same hardware version?

Following the suggestion of the OP, I checked the zip file downloaded for the two hardware versions and they both had the name Archer AX50_V1_230907. So the same firmware for either hardware version?

So confusing. And the warning "Wrong firmware upgrade may damage your device and void the warranty." makes me want to check everything three times but all I get is confusing information from the firmware upgrade web page.

Looking at the community, it looks like hardware versions are a common source of confusion.

A few suggestions:

  • Do not offer a download for V1.80 if it is the same file as for V1.
  • Rename the file to Archer AX50_V1.x_230907
