Model: RE315
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.20 Build 230228 Rel.52798n (8583)

Hi all,

I installed an RE315 a few months ago as a range extender to my Orbi Mesh (953).

The RE315 uses a different SSID from my main network and  only 3 devices use the RE315 SSID.

What I've observed is that the extender sends 7-8 ARP requests every 1-2 seconds on my main network, asking for mac addresses of various devices that are not connected to it. I suspect this is a problem because my IoT devices (WiZ lights) have started behaving erratically (i.e. slow responses/unpredictable). My theory is they are spending too much of time responding to these ARP requests from the 315.

Questions:

a) Why is the extender doing so many ARP requests and that too to clients that are not connected to its SSID?

b) How do I reduce the flow?

FWIW, I tried multiple combinations: I tried to only extend the 5G backhaul of my mesh via the extender (all my IoT devices use 2.4GHz), enabled access control to only allow the 3 devices on the RE315 - nothing seems to stop the ARP requests to a wide range of IPs on my network.

Thanks

  @UnsmartHuman,

Hmmm. I know REs have some funky mechanisms for addressing by nature. Have you happened to notice if the addresses line up with any of the devices connected to the RE? Keep in mind that it is likely that the devices that are connected through the RE will have a different MAC address assigned - as REs will usually take the first half of the MAC address and replace it with the first half of the REs MAC address.

  @Riley_S thank you for your note.

1. The IPs it pings do not line up to the 4 devices connected to it. They are all IPs on my main network (including iot lights)

2. yes I have high speed enabled.
