Model: Deco X55
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.2.0

Hello.  I have a unique question and I wasn't sure how to search for an answer, so I've decided to explain my situation here and ask for help/input.

MY SITUATION:

I currently have three TP Link Deco X55 devices creating a mesh network. One of the Deco X55s is hardwired to the T-Mobile modem to create a home mesh network I will refer to as "Home_Network". One of the TP Link devices is connected to the T-mobile 5G home modem to allow internet access. The modem does create its own wireless network that I will refer to as "TM_Network". I currently do not have any smart devices inside my home connected to the TM_Network.

I own a large fifth wheel camper which is parked outside my home and within range of the Deco mesh network. I would like to add one or two additional X55 units inside the camper so when the camper is parked near my home, the camper is on the Home_Network and all the smart devices in the camper can be on the Home_Network. I do not foresee any issues adding X55 units as they are within range and will always have power.

MY QUESTION:

When my wife and I travel we take the T-Mobile 5G modem with us. Currently our smart devices in the camper connect to the internet via the TM_Network. I am curious if one of the X55 devices in the camper could be hardwired to the T-Mobile modem when we are traveling and create a mobile version of the Home_Network. Essentially a smaller and now mobile version of Home_Network. Ultimately I am curious if I set up all X55 devices to be part of the stationary Home_Network, can I connect the T-Mobile modem to any of the Home_Network X55s and the Home_Network will be connected to the internet? Or when creating a mesh network with the X55, does the modem need to be connected the same X55 device and all other X5s are add-ons? My goal is to have one large home network for the house and camper, and then when we travel simply unplug the T-Mobile modem from inside the home, move it to and plug it in inside the camper, and have the home network continue to travel with us. I am ok with the stationary home network being cutoff form the internet while we are traveling.

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide answering my question!

  @deewan

Welcome to the community.

You could connect any of the Deco X55s to a T-Mobile router.

When you are at home, the "Home" Deco X55 which is wired to the T-mobile router would be the main Deco on the APP. And other satellite Deco X55s like Camper X55 will get internet access from this unit.

When you are traveling, after connecting the camper X55 to the T-mobile and opening the Deco APP, APP will inform you that the main Deco has changed and whether you want to set camper Deco as the main Deco. Once switching the main Deco, the Mesh network will start working again. The same thing will repeat after coming home and switching the "Home" Deco X55 to connect to T-mobile.

 You could also manually switch the main Deco if needed:

Thank you very much.

Best regards.

  @David-TP

Thank you so much for your help!!!!  Sounds like an easy enough transition.  I'll make my purchase of two additional X55s now.
