I am trying to setup a VPN server to access my home network remotely. One additional detail is that my TP-Link router is connected directly to the centurylink fiber ONT and setup with PPPoe authentication and 201 vlan tagging.

Here is what I have done:

1. Bound a Dynamic DNS through TP-Link.

2. Enabled the OpenVPN server using UDP protocol. I left settings standard for port/subnet/netmask.

3. Generated the Certificate and Exported the config file.

4. Downloaded OpenVPN connect on my client laptop.

5. Attempted to import the .OVPN config file to on said laptop.

6. The import fails, but I also notice that it is grabbing an IP and not the Dynamic DNS bound through TP-LInk. I think this is because of the Centurylink connection type.

I am open to buying more hardware to solve this problem (switch and or chain routers?). One thing I do not want is a complicated solution that is hard to troubleshoot in the future, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
