Model: Deco X55
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.8 Build 20220407 Rel. 69854

Recently got the Deco X55 (3 pack, but only using 2 of them. 1 as the main router, the other connected via backhaul). Internet connection seemed stable for about 2 weeks, but then for the last 2 weeks I have been getting multiple disconnects a day.

Not the normal type of disconnect you would think, as it only lasts anywhere from 3-5 seconds, but this indeed causes issues with WFH, and online gaming.

It's more important for work purposes as the GF's software for work will immediantly disonnect at any interruption in connection.

Software is up todate afaik.

Running google DNS (8.8.8.8) not autoselected.

Running 2.4GHz and 5GHz (160MHz)

Internet: Charter Spectrum (300mbps up / 11 down)

Wifiman has the room we work from at ~ -43dBm (she is hardwired into the main deco, I am not), so it isn't a issue in signal.

The logging in Deco's seems rather insignificant, and worthless compared to other router / wifi I have previously had. (Mostly ASUS).

Can't seem to upload the entire log, so here is a snippet:

Re:3-5 Second Disconnects

  @M3nd0z3r,

Does the disconnect affect every device on the network when it happens, both wired and wireless? What is the color of the LED on the main deco when the connection is dropped?

Since the last thing before the status change is in regards to bandwidth control, I would first look at the various setting related to the QoS of your Deco Network. Make sure that this is set at or above your expected speeds from your ISP, or try to disable it entirely to see if the disconnects persist.

If you connect a PC directly into the modem and skip the Deco Units, does the connection on the PC remain stable? If so, this would eliminate any potential ISP issues.

Also, have you been able to find any pattern in when the disconnects occur? Such as a similar time each hour/day? Lastly, I do not know if that is what the new DNS log entry is supposed to look like when the connection is refreshed, while I doubt it is the cause, try changing DNS servers again to something like Cloudflare.

  @M3nd0z3r

Do you have the same 3-5 second disconnects on the cable connection? if not, mainly on wifi, Maybe you could turn off 160mhz on the 5ghz. 160mhz uses DFS channels and when it detected the radar signal, it would be held for a few seconds.

  @Riley_S

The disconnect affects all devices on the network. Wireless and wired.

QOS is disabled (haven't ever bothered with such settings, as not much happenes during the work day).

Haven't tested a straight connection to the modem. Hard to test it for long periods of time to a single device. The internet could be stable for 12hrs+ with no issues, then all of a sudden disconnects for a 3-5 second period.

For the first few weeks, I didn't bother setting the DNS, but when issues started showing up, I changed the DNS to google. (Seemingly to no avail).

  @Heidi_Alp

The same disconnect happens on wifi and wired.

Doubtful that the wifi change from a DFS channel would have any effect.

I just wish there was something more in the log to say what happens. The settings and logs are far to basic for any meaningful determination (imho)

  @M3nd0z3r,

Are you able to check the logs of your modem? The fact that the disconnect occurs on both the wired and wireless devices leads me to believe that there may be some incompatible setting between your modem and router. Also, what modem are you using, and who is your ISP?

If you are still having difficulties maintaining a stable connection, I would recommend reaching out directly to our support service who can work to find a possible cause or will escalate your case to our engineering team for detailed troubleshooting and case collection for debugging. You can find the contact information for our support here: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/
