I have a TP Link 1500 router and a TP Link RX505 Extender that are hardware versions 1.2 and 1.0 respectively. I want to configure them in a mesh network so the first question is "Are they compatible with a mesh configuration?". I know that I will need to update the firmware in the RX505 and that update seems to be available but only as a .bin file that my Mac won't open. Can I just download the file and install the update via an ethernet cable without opening the file?
