But in a real world scenario, to ensure a stable network environment, we recommend you and your family connect about 25 devices to a standard Wi-Fi 5 router. For a tri-band router, like Archer C4000, the number of available connected devices goes up to 50.

I've seen other references as 32 devices per SSID. However, this might assume all are not active at the same time loading down the router.

@2MuchOnMyNet Well, adding AP's (with routing turned on) might help then.  The AX1500 is so cheap that a second one is not out of line. 

Wired devices seem to be having no issues, so maybe routing-on subnets to a wired port for low bandwidth devices...

 

Maybe I'll put an AX3000 between my current AX1500 and the modem   ...and add storage.

 

Removing devices from the AX1500 WiFi made it "better", but didn't cure the issue.

 

Now I'm trying an Archer AC50 (AX3000).  Immediately there's an improvement in WiFi strength and connections seem stable. I've got 59 total devices connected,  10 are wired and the rest are mostly 2.4GHz devices (a hand full of 5GHz).

 

As an added bonus, I can host my USB backup drive there.

 

 

I've had frequent 2.4G drops on a brand new AX1800 being used as a simple AP. I've got a C7 that this unit replaced due to poor 2.4G support now another TP-Link with poor 2.4 service. Looking at my options now to replace both units.

@RogerJT  The AC50 (AX3000) has caused a dramatic and immediate improvement.  The root of my issues with the AX1500 was just too many connections made in my home (Smart Devices) - but the WiFi signal strength is dramatically higher as well.

 

It's about $50 more than the AX1500 version, but it is what I needed. I'd recommend it.
