Hi All,

I'm new here, I searched on the forum but I couldn't find a related post about this topic.

I just bought a TL-WR902AC and I'm using it as RangeExtender but it doesn't see my root AP when configured to use 5GHz band.

I learned that's it's due to the 5GHZ channel used. It seems this product ONLY allow to use U-NII 1 channels (36-40-44-48) ?

Is there any way to let it use all the other U-NII channels?

In order to use it I currently had to force my root AP to use channel 44 which I would not.

Thanks for your hints.

Regards

@Carl

Thanks for your quick response. Please find below HW and FW versions of my device:

Firmware Version:0.9.1 0.3 v0089.0 Build 191018 Rel.34369n(4555)

Hardware Version:TL-WR902AC v3 00000001

Below you can find the scanned list of available AP.

The highlighted one is my AP but it's displayed ONLY when I force it to use channel 44.

Waiting for your comments.

Spoke with my testing team.  In RE mode channel for 5GHz available are:  36-48, 149-165.  This should also be the channels available in AP mode.

Hi Carl,

Why Tp-Link routers / extender don't support any of the DFS channels?

Most of the AP doesn't allow to select which 5G channel to use so, not supporting DFS channels, means not to be able to extend our 5Ghz network with the Tp-Link device.

DFS channels are not supported in AC products to my knowledge anyways.  Some of our AX products do support them and going forward likely more will support but at this time only select AX router support those specific channels.

Well, my mobile router (Alcatel product) does support DFS channels also but Tp-Link range extender does not. That's exactly the problem.

I don't think I'm the only one having troubles due to this Tp-Link product limitation.

However, for those reading the forum and having the same issue, I found a workaround by setting location on my main router to "CZECH REPUBLIC".

I would appreciate a proper fix from Tp-Link in one of the next firmware upgrade.

Best regards

There isn't anything to fix though. You are asking for something that isn't part of the products feature set.  Regardless if your mobile router can do this or not, TP-Link's travel router and as far as I aware no AC class  product supports DFS channels.  You are able to set the wireless channel manually on the TP-Link product if its in any router or in AP mode, if using it in RE mode then you would need to use one of the standard channels in order to get the product to link to your host network.
