The TP-link created a wifi spot with the EXT extension. Do I use it to connect my mobile devices to get the extended coverage?

Yes, the ext network is coming directly from the extender and not your Wi-Fi router. So if your devices are physically near the extender connect to ext, and those close to the router to that.
