Model: TL-WPA7510 KIT
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

Hi

My system of powerline adapters is composed of a TL-WPA7510 Kit, to which I have added a TL-WPA8630P. I have a fiber optic connection that can reach up to 280 Mbps in ideal conditions.

My problem is that, while the TL-WPA8630P works really well both in download and upload, reaching up to 100 Mbps in both directions regardless of where I plug it in the house, the TL-WPA7510 wifi adapter seems to struggle, only getting download speeds of around 3-4 Mbps and upload speeds of 40-50 Mbps - regardless of where I plug it in the house.

What is even more puzzling is that the TL-WPA7510 wifi adapter will sometimes work fine for 10-15 minutes when I unplug it and plug it somewhere else in the house, reaching download speeds of 60-70 Mbps and equivalent upload speeds, but then will revert back to its usual slow rates after that.

Using the TP-Link utility, I can see that the rates between the three adapters are completely fine, between 250 Mbps and 350 Mbps.

The fact that the TL-WPA8630P seems to work really well everywhere in the house seems to suggest that this is not a problem of wiring, but maybe of compatibility between these two powerline adapters?

Thank you in advance

@rfabiani1

It may have to do with the 7510 not having the third prong in the plug that the 8630 does which the 8630 uses to improve the signal.

If you place the 7510 adapters in the same room as the router do you get good speed? Just to test.

@Tony

I will try that.

In the meantime, I seem to have found a fix to this problem by selecting the "Lower PLC-to-VDSL Interference Mode" on the TL-WPA8630P. Since I have done this, download and upload speeds on the other powerline have massively improved. Could this be the solution then?

@rfabiani1

In referencing this: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/2027

It states that speeds should drop, but in enabling the feature which disables MIMO looks to have had the opposite effect to you.

The feature shouldn't affect the 7510, which is odd. If anything, the MIMO on the 8630 was disabled which may have been the cause of the slowdown to the 7510.

I would continue to monitor in this case to see if the performance stays consistent. If it does, then I would agree it is a solution you found.
