Archer C9 Slow Desktop Speeds
Archer C9 Slow Desktop Speeds
So I have tried just about everything and am at a complete loss.
Here's a breakdown of what I have tested so far and the download speeds:
Modem > Cable 1 > Desktop = 950 mbps
Modem > Cable 2 > Desktop = 950 mbps
Modem > Cable 1 > Router > Wifi > iPhone = 100 mbps
Modem > Cable 1 > Router > Cable 2 > Desktop = 7 mbps
Modem > Cable 1 > Router > Wifi > Desktop = 7 mbps
Interestingly, I am getting the expected 35 mbps upload speed with all of my tests.
I upgraded the C9 to the latest firmware, switched ethernet ports, and disabled NAT Boost with no success. I started thinking it could be a driver issue, but I got great speeds when plugged directly into the modem. Plus, I am not sure what driver would affect both wired and wireless. Desktop is Inspiron 3670 runiing latest Windows 10.
The router was purchased in 2015. Is it just past its life expectancy?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Okay thank you. We just wanted to make sure that the modem wasn't also a router and causing any kind of Double NAT issue, which can affect the speed and connectivity of a client device.
We have a few more questions.
1. Your Iphone recieved 100 Mbps over wireless. Which band was it connected to 2.4GHz or 5GH?
2. How far away was the Iphone from the router when testing? Were there any obsticals such as walls or appliances between you phone and the router?
3. What is the link rate for your Computer for both wireless and wired? What are the adapter types for both. For instance is the ethernet adapter gigabit or fast ethernet?
Best Regards

@Carl Thanks for the response.
1. I tested it on the 5 Ghz band.
2. My phone was about 3 feet away with nothing in between when I did the speed test.
3. Ethernet is a Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller and wireless is a Qualcomm QCA9565 802.11b/g/n Adapter (single band and limitted to 72.2 mbps). The wifi definitely won't be acheiving blazing fast speeds, but the test I ran when connected directly to the modem via ethernet showed that it can handle gigabit speeds very well.

Everything sounds like it should be fine, and honestly the router should be providing better speed. I would like to ask you to try one more thing before saying that its likey the end of the life for the C9.
Go to Advanced - System Tools - System Parameters and see the Duplex to 1000Mbps Full Duplex and save the setting. Power cycle and then reboot. Let me know the results.

I don't appear to have the System Parameters menu. Would that setting be at a different loaction?

I see what happened the Firmware Version of the emulator i have available does not match the firmware you router is loaded with. I'll need to reach out to our testing team to have a model loaded and to help confrim where this option is in the 2018 Firmware. I'll be back in touch shortly.

Thanks for being patient. Our test team confrimed the Frimware was changed. This feature was made full duplex 1000 Mbps by default from what i was told. Two things to try and please let me know if you have already.
1. Go to Nat Boost under Advanced and disable it. Then test speeds.
If still slow
2. Go to Bandwidth Control under enable it, choose "Other" as the line type and set you ingress (download speed) and Egress (upload) speed to match your service pacakage. Save the settings, reboot the router and test.
Let me know the results.

Thanks for the help, but I just tried both and there is no change on any device.
Is there anything else I can try, or do I just need to purchase a new router?

Yes it does appear that the router is likely at the end of its life. Check your messages here for a special offer.
