Router denies access to network randomly

Model: TL-WR940N
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 3.16.9 Build 150311 Rel.62186n

This just started to happen last night. Before, the router was using the wrong power cable which caused it to disconnect a lot and no devices could connect to it at random times. I've replaced the power cable and it worked great for a couple of weeks. However, just last night, it gave all devices who tried to connect to it the "denied access to network" message or the "can't connect to this network" error. I've had this router for an insane amount of time (4+ years) and could this be a sign of failing hardware?

Thanks everyone in advance.

@os1y

Sounds like MAC filtering might have been enabled.

Did you do anything to get it working again or are all devices still locked out?

Currently the issue is still happening and it only fixes if I reboot the modem (press power button on the back).

My phone doesn't connect

Computer doesn't connect either

Edit: The only reason why I'm connected to the router on my laptop is because I was already connected to the WiFi before it went bad. However, it doesn't make sense because my phone was also connected to the same WiFi but my connection was dropped on my phone but not on my laptop 🤔

@os1y

Upload the latest firmware for the router, the settings will be defaulted once the update is done.

Forget the saved wireless network that pertains to the TP-Link router.

At that point there are no settings possibly interferring with the devices being able to connect.

As a side note, just for the sake of verification, make sure the cable providing internet to the router is connected to the WAN port.

@Tony by update the router firmware, do you mean the original router of the TPLink extender?

I am having the same problem. My router used to work fine before and this problem never happened before but now after some random amount of time, my router disconnects all the devices and doesn't allow to reconnect. I have to restart the router to connect again I am really annoyed by this, every time I have to go to another room to restart the router. Can you please help me, my detailed question is here https://community.tp-link.com/us/home/forum/topic/265472 By the way I have tried all the things you have said, even re installed the latest firmware but it didn't help. Maybe its a hardware related?
