TL-WA855RE Extender - Extremely Slow
TL-WA855RE Extender - Extremely Slow
I just bought brand new extender, set it up accordingly and all butthe signal is weaker than I receive from the original device. Doing a speed test, main router gives 17Mbis, while the extender provdies only 1.2 Mbis. The Tether app tells the location is correct and all while the signal was perfectly strong during the test. This etremely low speed makes me feel like I should return the extender.
I wonder might there be a compatibility issue between my At&T Uverse router and the extender? How can I detect that? And if so how can I avoid that? Otherwise I will return this thing as it is totally useless right now.
Thanks for all your help.

Host name is "Att9per6fu", extender's name is "uzatma". Does this help?

Since the names are different that would prevent your device of connecting to the unintended one.
Do a factory default on the extender, log into it with a web browser. Here is a FAQ: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1408/
Look at the bottom and see what the build number is, it is formatted by a date. If the firmware has a build older then 181018 (Oct 10th, 2018) then download the latest firmware here: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/download/tl-wa855re/#Firmware
Here are the instructions to update it: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1416/
Once the software is updated, set up the extender like you did, but keep it in the same room to do a speed test. After place it where you would like, if the speed still is very close, you may need to move it closer to the router.

@MCMC I am having the same issue except I'm using a Netgear router, and feel the same way about returning them.
The poor performance won't go away no matter what I've done to fix it.

Hello Tony,
I have the same issue. I'm using the same network name with EXT and same password. I'm using an up-to-date Netgear router.

@MCMC I have de same exact problem. I just installed the TL-WA855RE Extender and is dead slow. The extender has coverage, but I can't get more than 1.5 MB speed when connected. I'm very disapointed with this.

@Tony I updated the firmware and have the same issue as the others. About 10% of speed on the output, which really isn't enough. Any other thoguhts?

@Jagsv Same problem, can't solve, looks like the product is half baked. I can't return it, unfortunately, too late.
