Released On: 2020-08-27 20:52:33Last update time: 2022-05-10 00:04:31

Note:  This process is currently only for the following model numbers: TL-WA820RE V1 and later,  TL-WA830RE V3 and later, TL-WA850/854/860/865RE V2 and later, TL-WA855RE V1 and later, RE200 V2 and later, RE205, RE305, RE350, RE355, RE360, RE380D, RE450, RE500, RE580D, RE590T, RE650 and later models.

Step 1: Plug the Extender in the socket and reset it if you ever configured it before. Please locate the extender in the same room with your main router, after you configure the extender you can relocate it.

Step 2: Connect your phone/iPad to the Wi-Fi signal of the Range Extender. The default Wi-Fi name of the extender is shown in the label of the extender.

Note: We suggest you forget your existing network in case your phone switches to another network itself during the configuration steps.

Step 3: Open the Tether App and select your extender to log in it. You may need to create a new Username/Password or just input the Username/Password you configured before (This Username/Password is only used to log in to the management page). After that, the extender will begin scanning the wireless signals automatically.

Step 4: Select the main router’s Wi-Fi name (2.4G and 5G) and input the Wi-Fi password of them. Please make sure that you know and input the correct password of each network (Very Important!). If your main router only has 2.4G network, you can skip the 5G configuration.

Step 5: Configure the extended network, you can click the “Network Name” to edit it. The password of your extended networks will be the same as the Host network. And then click “Next”.

Note: The Range Extender will broadcast its 2.4G/5G network to extend the Wi-Fi coverage in your home. We suggest you configure the different Wi-Fi name for the extender, for example, add “_EXT” in the Wi-Fi name. This will make it easier for you to confirm if you configured the extender successfully. And you can also change it to the same as the host Wi-Fi later, it would make it easier for your end devices to switch between router and extender automatically.

Step 6: Check your configuration, including “Host Network” settings and “Extended Network” settings. After that, you can click finish, and the extender will start applying your settings. This page shows the Wi-Fi names and passwords of your main router and extender.

Step 7: Relocated your extender and reconnect to your network. Now the extender has been rebooted and applied the new settings, please follow the guide to relocate your extender and connect to your new networks.

Additional step 1: Location Assistant. You can use this function to check if your Extender is located at a proper location.

Additional step 2: Modify the Wi-Fi name of the extender. In the Tools-Extended Network, you can edit the Wi-Fi name of the extender, when the extender’s Wi-Fi name is the same as your main router, your devices could switch easier between your main router and extender.
