Hello, I received my brand new C5400 router a few days ago. When I first hooked it up, everything seems to be working fine with stock firmware 160927. Then I upgraded the firmware to 170630 after a couple hours use. Suddenly the two 5GHz band wouldn't work. At the quick setup page, they were greyed out, and at the bottom of the web GUI, it says: the 5ghz network is unavailable due to restrictions in your region/country.
I have tried to reset the router to factory default (several times), also tried to re-apply the firmware update again, neither helped. Also, even thought the MU MIMO option was not selected, under the Advanced/wireless setup section, it always shows "you must have devices support this feature ....". It seems somehow the router was permanently "written" during the firmware upgrade, and user can't apply certain settings.
I believe there are still bugs to be worked out, especially with hardware version V2 and firmware verion 170630.
Hopefully TP LINK will address this issue ASAP. Thanks.

So you're back on the 170406 firmware?
It's running what came on it out of the box which is 1.0.5 Build 20160927 Rel. 53959(5553).

Firmware upgrades are like dancing with the Devil. I have 170406 running without issues and will
not
upgrade unless there is some real benefit or bug fix.

It just happen to me also,I got my c5400 3 days ago setup went fine. Updated firmware with no problems. Last night I decided I wanted to use the "Smart Connect" feature, so I decided to do a factory reset and set up using the Smart Connect. After a successfully setup, within minutes the router rebooted, then again and again so I did a factory reset again, this time the 5GHz channels where grayed out and below stating "The 5GHz Network is unavailable..........also the 2.4 GHz channel was not working and I could not select the mode cause it was greyed out along with some other sections .WTF! so I call support and stated the problem and what I had done to troubleshoot the issue. I was given a case number right away and the agent told me to go on the warranty website and requested a replacement since I had registered the product. The RMA is in process. Man! I feel like I made a bad choice. The online retailer I purchase from does not accept returns once the package is open so I'm stuck with this router. Don't get me wrong, upon initial setup, the speed and coverage is outstanding! Maybe this problem has something to do the firmware????

Anyone has any update on this? I am having the same problem, even with the replacement unit (i guess i made the mistake of upgrading the firmware on the replacement unit) :(

What a bummer! There is a lot of bad stuff going on with this Archer c5400 model. I thought I was purchasing a sound product but based on what I'm reading on this forum this model c5400 is a piece of crap! I realize that most post on forums are negative though. When my replacement arrives (It better be new)! I'm not gonna be in a rush to open it up I may just sell it, take a lose and buy something other than a TP Link router! The UI admin web interface sucks big time to. It is really slow loading ! Best wishes to you all. If I do use it I will not update the firmware for a while.

TP-LINK Firmware programmers suck. If you get a C5400 running fine out of the box DO NOT upgrade the firmware. You will be sorry.

Hi all,
Just checking in with an update, 13 days now since RMA request, first 5 days it was initializing now status says: processing replacement! I called and was told that the Christmas season has slowed the RMA process! It'll be about 5 more days processing my replacement! Boy! I'm telling you, I've bought Netgear, D-Link, Asus & Linksys Routers and never had any issues, So I decided on TP-Link Archer c5400 after doing some research..... .GONG! WRONG ANSWER! WORSE EXPERIENCE EVER!!!!!!!
Update! My replacement is on the way, should receive it tomorrow(12-29-17). Big Sticky in my brain..... "DO NOT UPDATE FIRMWARE!"...
Been doing some research, here's a link to some important reading https: //www.ctrl.blog/entry/tplink-firmware-outdated-downloads
A Quote from the link: " A support technician who shall remain nameless stated that it’s “not suggest you update the firmware if the device is working fine."

Smart decision. It seems with this router once you find that you have it working never upgrade firmware.
