Hi there

I am living in a house with 4 small apartments, 2 downstairs and 2 upstairs. I live in one and rent the other three out. All apartments currently have their own NBN connections running. There would be substantial cost savings for each party in having only one NBN connection for all and sharing the costs, even if we upgrade the connection to 50bmps or 100bmps. I think my tenants would be quite happy with around 15-20bmps download capacity each. Saying that I expect at peak times that six computers be drawing from the connection plus the same number smart phones.

I am not a tech wizard though and a bit overwhelmed with the number of router models and options available. So here my questions to you guys:

What would be the best router model to handle this type of demand?
Would a 50bpm NBN plan translate into approx 12.5bpm download if 4 devices draw at the same time?
Can I provide secure data connection for each tenant if we share the same wifi router?
Would we benefit from a vpn service? Would it provide individual network encryption for each tenant? Would I look for VPN-pass through capability in a router?

Not to sure about which brand to use but I am weighing up the Netgear Nighthawk MU-MIMO range for its ability to handle multiple simultaneous connections. However can it handle that many devices and provide data security in-between the apartments?

Another option I guess would be the Netgear Orbi solution with one satellite in the furthest upstairs unit. I am not sure if that is overkill though as the footprint of the entire house is only 25feet x 60 feet (times two floors), and I could position the router in a central position within the subfloor of the house.

Any tips and thoughts welcome...

Thanks!!

You may also check the TP-Link products: http://uk.tp-link.com/products/details/cat-9_Archer-C5400.html
This model also support MU-MIMO.
For your questions,
1. The speed of different devices may be different at the same time. But in to total they would get 50Mbps if they are all with good signal.
2. For the secure connection, I am not very sure what you mean exactly. If you want the devices to be separated from each other so that they cannot access each other, there is a function called AP Isolation which can do that.
3. If you want to use VPN service, you do need a router which support VPN passthrough and most of the router on the market support it.
4. For one wifi siganl ,the security would be the same. If the router have several wifi signals, like C5400, you can set up different security for each of the.
