Good Evening All,

I read through a lot of posts on DHCP and subnets, but it started going over my head so I was hoping for some help...

I recently replaced my BGW210/Airties 4921 with a BGW320 and single Deco X55

X55 is connected via ethernet wired backhaul

Both the BGW and X55 are both in router mode..(I don't game so I was looking for a quick and dirty setup.......)

Everything is on wireless EXCEPT my main PC which is hooked to a BGW lan port

All devices were working perfectly until I tried to do a couple of things from my wired PC across the wireless network......

My wired PC no longer sees the wireless Brother printer and therefore I cannot print.....my wife's wireless machine sees it and prints to it fine.

My wired PC can no longer connect to/see my wifes computer across the network..(for backup purposes)

I am sure this has something to do with the current default subnet I am on with my PC through the BGW320 (198.168.1.xx)

while everything else is being assigned by the Deco within the IP family of 192.168.68.xx

My questions are....

1) Is there something I can do in Router/Router mode with the IP address variables (BGW and/or Deco) to allow my PC to connect with everyone else

or

2) create singular subnet for everyone to talk on

or

3) If I take the BGW to Passthrough mode, will I still have the same issues connecting my PC to a lan port on the BGW?

TIA,

Bama

  @BAMA333 Though I don't have the same model router, I have set IP Passthrough.  I can try to direct/help you with that.

An option can be to set the X55 to Access Point Mode.

The other option IP Passthrough, although I have not tried to connect a PC, (at least not permanently), direct to the BGW320 and tried to print on the Deco network.  I am able to access the 192.168.1.254 BGW320 from the Deco network, which is 192.168.68.x and Subnet not set to encompass the 67 difference.  (My understanding is not clear)...

@jzchen Thanks for the offer...I went ahead and moved my BGW320 to IP pasthrough and set my X55 to AP mode.....I assumed this would fix it....and it did..... I just did not want to give up some of the Deco router features in case I wanted to use them in the future.....but I think I will survive...thx again for the offer to help.. bama

  @jzchen

ok....so now I am slightly confused again....

My current setup....

BGW320 is in IP Passthrough w/ DHCP enabled/firewall functions off/wireless radios off.  X55 is in Access point mode.  Everything is on the same subnet and working correctly....Including my wired PC...no issues with speed anywhere in the house.

Are you saying there is a better/safer configuration that keeps everyone on the same subnet?

thanks

Sorry yes typically you do one or the other. So you should either change back the X55 to router mode, OR turn off IP Passthrough. If you change back the X55 to router mode then it should have a WAN address, barring any bugs. You keep all the router configuration available. If you decide to turn off IP Passthrough instead, then the BGW320 is the router for everything.

  @jzchen

thanks....I tried putting the router back in "router" mode and leaving the BGW320 in IP Passthrough, but it put my only wired connection on the BGW subnet while everything else...(other computer and printer) on the different Deco subnet....I could not print or see the other computer...

I flipped it around an disabled IP Passthrough on the BGW and enabled AP mode on the Deco.

this put everyone on the same subnet and everyone is talking again.....

will probably end up leaving it this way since it is working and BGW is prpoviding some firewall protection....

thanks for the help
