Model: Archer A7
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.2.1

Had this Archer A7 router since October 2020, it's been used on two different ISPs over the last 4 years and we've had no issues.  5 days ago, we switched to a brand new ISP for Fiber Optic.  Since the switch, we have seen random daily internet drops.  Sometimes it comes back up on it's own, sometimes I have to power down the A7 and reboot it with the power button (it's unreachable through the Tether app during these times).  Sometimes the network light stays green while the WiFi and all Ethernet connections are completely down, sometimes the light turns orange.

I have been on the phone with the ISP twice during drops and they see no loss of connection or dip in light levels on their end.  If I bypass the A7 and plug my PC directly into the Optical box during an outage, the PC immediately regains connection.  Then, plugging the router back in-line results in immediate loss of Ethernet and WiFi.

The router is obviously the problem.  I have replaced the Ethernet cable from Optical box to router.  I have checked that firmware is up-to-date.  I have even done a factory reset and reconfigured the A7 to the new Optical Box via the Tether app.  My issue persists.

Is there some setting I am missing to configure for Fiber?  Does anybody know tips and tricks that could eliminate this random drop problem?

I would do the following:

Check the connectors in the modem and the router looking for a deformed pin. Plugging and unpluging may have bent or made a pin weak.

Be sure the correct power adapter is pluged into the the correct unit.

If using a UPS, bypass it for  bit as I have seen strange things when the battery starts to fail.

Try with only the one PC attached to the Ethernet and nothing attached to the USB ports.

Reset the router to factory and reenter your settings.

Last, buy a new router from a company that has a good return policy or borrow a router from someone (I kept my old working Archer C8 as a back up in case I have an issue like this). If that fails you can assume the issue is some where else.

Let us know what you find.
