Model: Archer AX3200
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.2 Build 20230829 rel.65573(5553)

I have an Archer AX3200 router.   I started having some challenges with devices struggling to complete connection even though I see indicator light on device come on and it is reaching device, to devices crashing and resetting as soon as they connects.   I have confirmed Wi-Fi signals, scanned for and confirmed no interference, placed devices right next to router, etc., but still see the same thing.   With certain devices I noticed it will reset and when I go and look I see in Tether app Joined date/time just occurred, too.  I have also found when rebooting the router I see all Joined correctly reflect joining, but in an hour or so I will see blocks of them updating.  After a few hours they will all reflect update times, some being the same.  This continues to take place.  I originally thought Joined represented the first time connected but now wondering if it has been long enough no data from idle device that it refreshes when devices starts communicating again.  I have confirmed that the Wi-Fi channels and IP are not changing across these events and devices are not actually dropping Wi-Fi.  It almost appears to be something at the communication/handshake level.

Here is one example…. I have an x-sense alarm that flashes once the sensor is triggered.  It will continue to flash until you clear it by pushing a button at the base station.  What I have found is that it stops flashing on its own.  When it stops flashing I always see that the Joined has just updated.  The only way to reproduce is when it drops from internet and rejoins… which I tracked and didn’t do.  Also placed next to router and monitored for interference, etc. and there was not any. I made my phone a hotspot but my phone was connected to Wi-Fi.  It stopped flashing and sure enough, the Joined had just refreshed for my phone.  I then kept it connected to my phone hotspot and used mobile data and it works fine.  This is just one example of device acting like the connection had been removed.  I have other devices that crash after sitting when trying to connect…. such as security cameras when trying to bring up live view.

In addition to the Joined getting updated when first connects and/or data has started again, there must be something else taking place at that time to the connection or reason that is impacting devices and leaving connection in a bad state and really confusing devices.  Any ideas?   Any changes I could try to make to the router that might help?

@Quest7 This one took me a long time to figure out and I am posting an update to help others that may have run into the same question.  It turns out that the Joined updates when the router changes the channel width.   I switched 2.4GHz from Auto to 20MHz and started testing.   My initial observation after several hours is that I no longer see the Joined updating ever 1 to 3 hours.  I also have started testing different devices and have already found for a few that they are no longer having any issues.  For example... the x-sense now maintains alerts at the base station and is not resetting.   It will be interesting if this resolves my security camera issues too.  I will post back later.

Additional surprises.... I actually ended up getting faster speeds switching 2.4GHz to the 20MHz which I know should not be the case.  Even though running interference tools have not shown a lot of interference, at times there must be apparent by doing better 20MHz and that auto was jumping around so much.  If anyone has pros and cons on being at 20MHz  I would be very interested.  I am also thinking of changing my 5GHz from auto to 40MHz and welcome thoughts on if that is a good idea too?

The wider the band, the more likely you will get interference. The wider band does offer better speed but in many cases it is not needed.
