Model: TL-PA4010 KIT
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I recently found my WiFi was not arriving upstairs even though it had been transported for years by my TP-PA4010. After troubleshooting the system, I got some advice: since I upgraded my router to a TP-Link Archer 1800 AX 1800 WiFi 6, my powerline adapters need to be replaced. The Mbps was only 40, inadequate for delivering WiFi for Netflix. Sadly, I neglected to ask for buying advice when I had an expert on the phone.

Many products are offered, and I've been satisfied enough with TP-Link to spring for the router. So what should I buy to replace the PA4010? All I need is to transport an internet signal greater than 50 Mbps on floor up. Just want access to Netflix and to replace what I've apparently lost.

Appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Your existing Powerline adapters will work with the AX1800.  They aren't wireless adapters so there is no signal that can be interfered with or that you would need to clone.  Its essentially just an extended ethernet port.  Sure the PA4010 is Fast Ethernet only so the max possible speed would be 100 Mbps.  If you are looking for a better Powerline then I would recommend the TL-PA7017P Kit This Kit uses a more recent protocol for powerline.  Has a better maximum transmission rate between the nodes and offers Gigabit Ethernet ports.  Plus it offers power passthrough so you can still use the electical outlet the unit is plugged into.

Thanks, Carl. I'm encouraged to hear that my existing apparatus might still be adequate for my limited requirements.

After replacing some components and resetting others, I found that the PA4010 still worked but too slowly. I never got an answer why my upgrade caused a problem with my existing equipment. How can I get it up to 100mbps? I'd rather not buy another kit if I can avoid it. Thanks much for answering my post.

That is more difficult to answer.  That is because it is a multi-factoral concern.  Just like Wireless, powerline has its own set of barriers.  These include distance, number of jumps through the panel, noise on the powerlines, the number of applianced on the same circuit not connected to surge protectors. These all wil reduce not only the throughput between the two units but the speed  powerline adapters get over the internet.  Take a look at this post i made from a few years ago that explains it in greater detail and if you have any other questions let me and the community know.
