Hello All,

I have a TP-Link router running at a family members home, on that network are a few IP cameras. I want to be able to connect the cameras to an NVR at my home, also running a TP-Link router, so footage can be recorded from them.

I used the TP-Link router firmware to create a VPN connection with OpenVPN, and got the two routers connected together. I used the TP-Link VPN Client menu to select the IP cameras for use with the VPN. However, I'm stuck because the cameras have wildly different IP addresses on my local network and I cannot see / interact with them.

Looking for some advice if anyone has some.

Thanks for your time.

Interesting. Never thought to do that.

I assume you have port forwarding set up on your router and using static addresses on the NVR.

Also, can you get it to work without the VPN?

I know some NVRs support VPN so that may be the place to host it instead of the router.

Yes, I can do port forwarding, but I am weary of exposing the cameras to the outside Internet. I figure the vpn is a safer alternative if I can just get the cameras to show up on my network and not on a different subnet. The NVR I have doesn't support VPNs. It's actually a Zoneminder server, and all the cameras need to be on the same lane for it to see them.
