ISP says deco is repeatedly Releasing IP and requesting a new IP

My router is an X55 V1.26 with the latest firmware.  Is there a way to stop this from happening?

The Deco can't release the IP address, that is handled from service level at the ISP.  It could be that the ethernet between the modem and router has a short and is not keeping the connection alive.  It could also potentially be a failing ethernet port on either the Deco or the ISP modem.

The first thing to do would be to change out the ethernet between the Deco Main unit and the ISP modem.  If the issue still happens you can change the ethernet port on the Deco or even change which Deco is the Main unit.  If you do change the unit and it is still happening I would recommned requesting the ISP to do a modem sawp

I swapped the cable today.  No modem, I'm on a fiber system with the last device belonging to the ISP.  Their tests were sat, but as you say could possibly be a bad port.  Let's hope it was just the cable!

Curious why you say a router can't Release a IP address from the ISP?  Maybe I am using the wrong term.  I recall prior routers having a button on the WAN setup page by the assigned IP that said something like "Release" or "Renew".  I don't see that on the Deco interface, but I thought that might just indicate it's not available for the end user.

I will update after some further run time.

Generally speaking a IP (WAN IP) lease lasts for 24 hours.  This IP, assigned by the ISP during the handshake with the service is bound to the MAC addres of the router or the device that authenicates.  This is done so that if there is a lost of service or a power cycle during the leased time the same IP is assigned.  While you can power cycle or turn your home equipment off, depending on the time left in the lease, the same IP would or should be assinged.   The only way to clear the lease is to leave your equipment down for a longer period of time like 15 minutes or so.  This will force the lease to expire and the WAN IP assigned to someone else and when you reauthenicate you get a new IP address.  Typically the ISP is the only one who can force a new IP to be assigned.

The old Release and Renew buttons did force a reauthenication handshake but you did not always get a new IP address.  It was more of a reset of the lease time than anything else.

I don't believe the cable was the issue.  I am getting a ton of daemon:err that best I can tell are the result of IP conflicts, then running out of IPs to assign.  Is there some way to share the log without revealing security sensitive or is the best approach to redact the ips and macs?

@carl for example a common line is daemon.err udhcpd[2048]: clear ip 3444a8c0 if you convert the hex to an ip address, it is the ip of a device on the network written backwards! this is followed by daemon.err udhcpd[2048]: Sending ACK to 192.168.68.52 repeats over a bunch of times and there are others as well that I don't understand...
