Model: Deco XE5300
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.2.9 Build20240724 Rel. 39578

My internet was a little fuzzy and it had been a few months since I reset everything so why not.  When the Nighthawk modem and Deco booted up Deco could not find an internet connection.  My Surface laptop was Ethernet connected to modem and the internet connection was fine, so the modem to provider was good.  Trouble shooting through the app was of no help.  Soft reset didn't work so I did a factory reset.  After a painstaking process Deco still couldn't connect to the internet.  Finally I unplugged everything from the modem and only had an Ethernet connection to the Deco, restarted modem and Deco found ther internet.  Plugged my Surface Ethernet into the modem and disabled the WiFi on the Surface, and I had no internet on the Suraface but the Deco did have internet.

So then I reset only the modem and had both Deco and Surface connected.  Upon restart Deco lost the internet connection but my Surface was connected.  Then I did the reverse, restarted modem with only Deco plugged in and Surface unplugged and Deco found the internet.  Plugged my Surface into the modem and couldn't get the internet.

Basically if my Surface is plugged into the modem during restart Deco won't connect to the internet.  But then I'm left using WiFi on my Surafce for internet connection.  I would like to use my Surafce on an Ethernet port directly to the modem.

Can anyone provide a solution to fix this?

@GeoffT It looks like the modem only accepts a single Ethernet client.

Do you have another device you could connect by Ethernet to the modem, to verify that?

When the Surface is connected by Ethernet to the modem but has no Internet, what does the Surface show as response to "ipconfig /all"?

When the Deco has no Internet, what does the app show under "Internet Connection"?

What is the operation mode of the Deco, Router or AP?

@yves_b Thanks for the tips.  I have a printer I connected by Ethernet and it wouldn't work.  I did a little research on the modem Netgear CM1200 and it appears it only supports one client.  I could configure ports 1 & 2 for aggregation but it appears this is only useful for a NAS.

Might be time for a switch conected to the Deco WiFi.

@GeoffT If you have no free Ethernet port on a Deco, then you can indeed connect a switch to a Deco and connect other devices to the switch.

What do you mean by "Deco WiFi"?
