I have been working with a network professional over the last few days and have been truly stumped when it comes to my internet speed. I am currently a customer of Verizon Fios and have the 1gbps Up/Down package. If I plug anything into my ONT, via cat6, I get over the prescribed amount. When I go through any router device, whether Netgear or TP, I get tanked connection and the best I have seen so far is from my Nighthawk products: RAX50: 450mbps down/156up, RS500: 950Mbps down/2mbps up. I have done almost everything imaginable, along with the network professional I have been communicating with and they cannot understand why the speeds tank so hard once it hits the router. All of the firmware was updated, and even reverted back in the case of the RS500 since the site said the newest version was 1 iteration prior. If anyone out there can shed some light on this I would be eternally grateful. Added context, I am currently hooked up with my TP-Link Archer BE-550 and that speed is: 205mbps down/32up.

Thank you all in advance for any help with this conundrum.

  @Matt_Mc

That is strange.

I assume you are using bridge mode on the ont.

Some things I would try. Power cycle after each change.

power off ont and router and power on as per the user guide.

Connect only one Ethernet port.

Disable Wifi.

be sure VPN is off.

be sure you are using the power adapter that came with the router.

turn off QoS.

turn off firewall.

try different DNS.

unplug any usb

be sure your device is not trying to back up to the cloud.

turn home shield off.

  @Matt_Mc Your router might be throttling speeds due to certain settings or limitations in handling Verizon FiOS's gigabit connection. Since you’re using an ONT, make sure the router is set to handle full gigabit speeds and that it's not applying any QoS or bandwidth-limiting features. I guess, some routers have issues with handling FiOS-specific configurations. To ensure your setup is optimized, FiOS gateway setup and reach fiosgateway. org to learn how to troubleshoot internet speed from router settings. For more details, you can look up ‘MyFiosGateway Login Guide’ on search engines Anyway, you might want to check your FiOS router settings for changes to effect.
