Model: Deco X68
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.5 Build 20240723 Rel. 43655

I am Never! I'm never going to do another firmware update!!!!

I got the notice to update, so I had time and not much going on, so I said, ok, I have a Deco Mesh, the X68 and X25."

It seemed to go fine and  it did the update then the network returned for about 5 minutes then went off. So I came to see and all were flashing blue, which means they are in set-up mode.

SETUP??

I waited, and nothing changed for 30 min.. so I decided to see if they needed setup.. yes, so I started at the main deco. OH now I have to change the password to their specs..

Once I did it worked but I have 35 wireless devices, from 5 different companies.   Each one now has to be changed to the new required password.

THIS! And I will never go with TP-LINK again!!!

At my age, 78 I don't have enough time to mess with this!!!

Rant over and good by Deco/TP-Link

Hi @jeterry3

I'm sorry to hear your Deco firmware update experience was anything less than seamless. Our Deco Systems are designed to provide a quick, intuitive, and hassle-free firmware update process for users.

Before reconfiguring your Deco system, were you able to try power cycling (unplugging and plugging back in) the main node, followed by the satellite node(s)?

Power cycling the system, starting with the main node, may, in some rare cases such as yours, be an effective method of allowing your Deco system to reboot and resume its previous working status

If the system has already been reset and/or reconfigured, the easiest way for your existing wireless devices to reconnect seamlessly is to use the Deco app and re-apply the same SSID (Wi-Fi Name) and password previously used. This will allow your wireless devices to rejoin the network automatically. In fact, you can still perform this step via the Deco app if you have any remaining devices that have not yet re-connected.

If you have any unexpected concerns or questions about your Deco experience in the future, always feel free to reach out here or contact our live support team via phone or chat via our support portal. We will be happy to walk you through troubleshooting or answer any questions you may have.

  @Ryan

I am a retired Telecom Engineer, I know how this stuff works.

1. 5 minutes after the update, the entire system went into Initial setup, blue flashing light on each unit.

2. Power cycle the units. when they came back on Blue flashing lights.

3. Went into Deco set-up, but would not take the old password, all settings were wiped from the Firmware change.

4. WASTED 4 hours of my time after getting the Deco units online by then having to change each wifi device, all my security cameras, motor controls and light plugs and switches.

AS I said, TP-Link has failed me so bad, I am going to move on.

Was it not possible to assign the old password to the new setup?

I guess you didn't read the part where he said he was instructed to use a required new password.
