Model: Archer AXE300
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.9 Build 20230525 rel.2592(5553)

For a $500 "high end" router the Frimware update schedule for this is pretty abysmal. last update was 5/25/2023 which is over a year ago.

How do we know that vunerabilites are taken care of?

Usability updates would also be great, as the configuring of DHCP is pretty abysmal.

I got rid of my ASUS Router because I no longer want to support that company, and figured I would get a high end compeitiors router. I chose this one from the reviews I read, but the thing has only had TWO firmwares since release?

What gives?

Are you like Creative Labs and just get your hardware out the door, patch it, and then never support it again?

Pretty awful for a $500 router if you ask me.

are we EVER going to get any updates and functionality changes?

This doesnt fill me with confidence that I made the right choice to drop $500 on this thing at all.

@Lt-Belspur too bad that i got rid of it.

On an ASUS with Merlin that gets way more updates and has 1000% more functionality than that garbage

As an old retired software developer, I designed and wrote software as best as I could where the only time it needed an update was for enhancements and regulatory upgrades.  The fact that there is many upgrades to the firmware may be an indication that the firmware is not as good as it should have been when it was released. Router standards do not change over time for a specific router. Yes, new threats do occur and need to be addressed.

Merlin on Asus is a modified version of the Asus firmware with some fixes and few enhancements. A while back I heard that Merlin is going to stop and was looking for someone to take over. Not sure if that happened or not. The Asus routers do have a lot more options which in some cases would get the average homeowner user into trouble if they start changing them. For most users the TP Link routers do a fine job, Asus routers can be used by anyone but is more suited for the advanced user with special needs. But it is not the ideal router. Some think using an alternate firmware such as DDWRT is the way to go but that has it issues also. Some users and companies use things like PFsense or OPNsense for additional security and more control over the network.
