I have an AT&T Fiber router (Nokia BGW320-550) with 3 AirTies W Smart Extender 4921.  AT&T is no longer supporting the AirTies unless we pay a monthly fee to rent new ones

I have purchased 3 Deco X55’s. I have some questions about set up

If I put the router in IP pass through mode, do the X55’s provide the SSID and DHCP?

There are 3 Cat 5 boxes in the townhouse, is it best to plug them in vs using Wi-Fi?

Any other configuration recommendations

Thank you!

Deco can work in router mode (default) as well as in AP mode.

For better bandwidth using an ethernet backhaul is preferred - details.

The Deco will always provide SSID, and it is better to disable the wifi of the AT&T router.

If the AT&T router is in pass through mode, then you set the Deco in Router mode, and the Deco will provide DHCP.

If you set the AT&T router in router mode, then you set the Deco in AP mode, and the AT&T router will provide DHCP.

When the Deco is in router mode, one port of the main Deco must be connected to the AT&T modem, and the satellite Deco cannot be connected to the modem. No restriction when the Deco is in AP mode.

It is always better to use Ethernet cable instead of wifi, mainly for interconnecting the Deco together.

I was able to set up the Deco 55s in WiFi mode. The AT&T router is in pass through mode with both 2.4 and 5 ghz radios turned off

everything appears to be working well.

i am looking at iot devices. It looks like there are three ways to isolate iot devices specific to deco 55s

Device isolation vs guest nw vs create iot network

thoughts on which approach will provide security without limiting the ability to manage iot devices?

thank you

p.s. I am a non-technical end user
