Below you can find a summary of the features planned to be introduced in an upcoming firmware update to our Deco platform. These features will be generally available with the 1.11.0 or 1.5.0 firmware update. Added features and update availability may be region and model-dependent.

Please keep in mind that this firmware is still in the testing/development phase and is set to release in the coming months. Our teams are unable to provide precise timelines on what models and what features are expected to receive an update or feature. Keep an eye out for any firmware updates through your Deco App. 

 

New Features Added in Deco 1.11.0 / 1.5.0

  • Added Support for WireGuard VPN Server/Client Connections

 

  • Added Built-In Quick Configuration for VPN Providers, NordVPN and SurfShark (Region Dependent)

 

  • Add “Client Speed Limit Feature” on the Client’s Settings Page

 

  • Added Ability to Disable Auto WAN/LAN Sensing and Ability to Set the WAN Port Manually

 

  • QoS Improvements:
    • App-Based QoS Management
    • Added Ability to Create QoS Presets through “Scene Priority” Feature
    • Added Quick Toggle for QoS

 

WireGuard VPN

The firmware now supports the use of WireGuard VPN in VPN Client and VPN Server. You may use either the new quick setup process or manually configure your Deco Network to use a WireGuard VPN

 

 Configure Deco Network as a WireGuard VPN Client

When configuring WireGuard VPN as a VPN Client, it supports Scan QR Code, using configuration file and manual input.

Create a WireGuard VPN Server for Your Deco Network

When configuring WireGuard VPN in VPN Server, the default configuration information has been generated, just add Description and Peer. Then you can successfully configure it. If you have specific needs, you can modify the configuration information manually.

After successful configuration, a QR Code and configuration file will be generated for client connection.

For NordVPN and SurfShark users, the Deco app has added the support to quickly setup your VPN by signing into your VPN provider’s account.

Client Speed Limit (Bandwidth Restrictions Per Device)

The New “Speed Limit” feature allows you to set a maximum upload and download speed for devices. This feature is often used to prevent individual devices from using the entirety of your network’s bandwidth.

The Speed Limit setting can be found under the settings for your individual devices.

Fixed WAN Port

The firmware supports the selection of a physical interface as the WAN port. This interface will then be considered a WAN port and must be connected to the front-end device. Other physical interfaces will be treated as LAN ports. This feature is mainly used when the Deco does not have a WAN connection and needs to provide an IP address to the backend.

QoS Improvements

QoS Switch (Model Dependent / Not Available in Pre-Release)

From the QoS configuration screen you will be able to quickly toggle the QoS settings for your entire network. Perfect for those times when you need a device to take full advantage of your network capacity.

 

Create App-Based QoS Scene Presets

From the QoS Configuration Screen, a new option to create a ‘Scene’ based on your app and device usage has been added. By configuring these settings you are setting a specific priority for the traffic passing through these specific services or types of services.

1. VPN Integration: A Game-Changer

One of the standout features in Deco Firmware 1.11.0 is the improved VPN support. This update has made setting up and managing VPNs a lot more straightforward. From my experience, a VPN is crucial for maintaining privacy and security, especially if you’re often connected to public or semi-public networks.

 I would like clarification on which hardware models are suppoerted by this beta firmware release. It say Deco X55v1. I have Deco X55 ver 1.26, which currently has firmware 1.1.0 20230522. I'm interested in the new level, which supports WireGuard VPN connections with SurfShark. Currently I can only use the OpenVPN connection type. If this firmware works with my hardware, how do I manully update the firmware on the X55?. Thanks.

Hey @thebiker,

Thanks for asking. To limit potential incompatibilities, we normally recommend only using the early-release firmware on the listed versions.

 

Normally, when a product moves from the v1 to the v1.2x model, a different firmware is used. This means that for your case, the beta firmware would not apply, and you would need to wait for the official release or extended betas.

 

I will need to check with the team to see if this firmware will apply to the Deco X55 v1.6, as the v1 and v1.6 versions normally share their firmware. However, this rule does not always apply to Early Release Firmware. For now, the firmware should be limited to the models explicitly mentioned above.

Thank you for your quick response. I would be most interested in hearing what you find out regarding the compatibility of this firmware with the X55 ver 1.6 hardware. Also, I would be interested in when this feature might be introduced to the other hardware versions.

Thanks for letting our team know. Did you happened to do any type of troubleshooting to help find the cause? Since there were new QoS settings and toggles added, I would first try to disable QoS entirely and see if anything improves? 

 

Do you know if the behavior was limited to the wireless devices, a specific node, or your entire network?

 

You can perform a manual firmware recovery to revert back to the latest firmware on your product's download page.

I noticed you have Deco V1.26 and your firmware listed as 1.1.0 2023052. 
 

I have 3 V1.26 and there's a firmware update that's been available since approximately late December/early January.

 Hi @StephH ,

Thanks for the note regarding the firmware level on my Deco units. I think I noticed that before, but since the features/fixes in that level did not address any issues I had, I did not bother with the update. However, I find odd that the auto-update has not dectected a new firmware being available. Also, when I go to the "update Deco" in the app, it comes back and says that my units are already up-to-date, so no update is needed. I may explore doing a manul update to the 1.2.0 Build 20231229 version. I have not wanted to try the manual update to an unsupported level due to the fear of "bricking" the units and have to do a factory reset or buy new units. I'm hoping that the 1.11 version gets approved (at least in Beta) for the v1.26 hardware.
