X55 won't install f/w 1.3.1
My new Deco X55 lists the hardware version as in the screenshot. I tried to install the new 1.3.1 firmware, but it said "Failed". Is this due to my hardware version not being compatible with the update? (I got a 3-pack, and all 3 units are the same hardware version and f/w.) I really need MAC filtering, so I hope a f/w update for my model happens soon. Thanks.

Hello Dave.
FW 1.3.1 and 1.4.1 are currently specific to the Hardware versions 1.0 and 1.6. For your hardware version 1.2 or 1.26 this firmware is not available. the most recent FW on these models is 1.1.0. So this would be why you are getting a failure on the FW.

@Carl Thanks for letting me know that. Will my 1.2 hardware get the firmware update at some point?

I wish I could say but I just don't know. We do not have a release schedule for FW or feature updates. The best I can offer is to check the website often to see if an update has been added. For the US this generally takes place on Fridays. If you see something here then you should also see it in the app as an available OTA upgrade.

@Gigabit_Dave @Carl I have the same concern, as the newer firmware supports features (such as Eco mode) that my Deco M5s support, yet the newer X55 (HW v1.26) I've set as my main deco is stuck with this older firmware. Kind of feels like a downgrade.

@AlarmingMelon I'd have to agree, it feels like a downgrade. I've never had a router without MAC filtering - including my old router, a TP-Link standalone. Additonally, if I'm reading the upgrade page correctly, X55 H/W versions 1.0 and 1.6 both got the MAC filtering upgrade. Seems like they jumped over our 1.2x

V1.0 and 1.6 are functionally the same hardware. We use the .6 and.0 to identify the manufacturing plant for quality control purposes. The V1.2 is different hardware as thus is likely the reason these new Features have either not yet been added or might not be added. I do wish I could provide better information but at this time since we do not have a roadmap of firmware releases the best I can offer is check the website every Friday as that is usually when we update content.

Thanks for clarifying. I realize you can only tell us what they say you can, but I have to say, I'm concerned that such a basic security fuction as MAC filtering would be left out of the firmware for the 1.26 hardware. If the powers that be aren't able to make good on this feature soon, I'll likely not be purchasing products from TP-Link again, as I require my routers to be secure. Plenty of other manufacturers understand this.

Mac Filtering isn't actually as secure as one might think, at least not with a lot of today's networking devices. Unless you are using a white list, MAC filtering is easily bypassed by features built into any phone or computer OS released in the last few years. In fact, such features are enabled by default on devices like the iPhone. If you go into your wireless settings and look you should see a feature called Private Wi-Fi Address. This Spoofs your device's MAC address anytime it connects to a network. It's those device manufacturers' attempts to "protect" your privacy but in doing so they have caused issues with networking features such as parental controls or MAC Filtering.

I definitely use a whitelist, Carl, which is my whole reason for using MAC filtering. Given that my X55 doesn't have MAC filtering, and may never have it, are there other settings I should look at in my Deco app to make sure my network is locked down?

Why don't we try this? I can't guarantee a comprehensive reply but if you can provide me a list of wants I can contact development and see if they can provide me context.
