  @nwa

I just noticed this feature showed up on my app!!!

I do have a XE75 now as my main router (with several other XE5300 units) - so I'm not sure if it's new to the XE75 only or both.

But I was surpised to see 'Backup' randomly show up under More -> System. FINALLY!!

  @xjsimon Yes, I have it too in my app for the Deco BE63. But I don't want to backup to their cloud. I want to backup to my USB disk attached to the router or to my computer if possible. It says "Backup your network configuration settings to restore your configuration date if you get new Decos or reset your network"

"When backing up, all your user settings will be uploaded to the cloud, including network configurations such as network SSID, password, internet connection type, encryption type, Parental Controls info, VPN info, admin info, client list and more."

Also, I don't see a "Restore" button for that backup.

  @DezM I see the same in my S4 mesh. Thanks TP-Link. But agree that saving my password in your cloud storage is not IT recommended practice.

Please continue the progress by making a local backup/restore option available. And preferably with a format that can be human readable for worst case reconfiguration to a new/different system.

  @xjsimon Deco M9 Plus has it also, thanks for the heads-up. However, as stated by others, backup to the cloud isn't the best option. I prefere a local backup. Hopefully this will be added soon. @Riley_S might have a update for us?

  @nwa,

I will reach out to the teams to see if there is any info or plans, I havent heard too much on the topic, but i will see what I can dig up. Otherwise, I can at least recommend it be added (especially now that most Decos ship with a USB ports and a backup option is available at some level).

Just to provide it alongside: What are the specific concerns of the cloud backup? Are there parts that you wish you could prevent being backed up to the cloud for now?

Most Importantly, what would the ideal backup function look like to you?

I will point out that our Decos have always been the 'all-in-one' simple option, and isnt necessatily intended to have some of these features such as a full web-ui. Saying that,  we have seen many many more advanced features (such as Channel Selection) introduced in the latest updates, and there is the potential for additional changes due to TP-Link Simple Setup (TSS) being introduced to our routers and smart devices.

The latest app version (for the Deco X20) still has no backup option.

Do not buy an X20 if you plan to configure it.

When I asked my local broadband retailer, who promotes the X20, about the lack of a backup option, they said it is intended as a Mesh Wifi only, NOT as a router etc.

I would say it is marketed as a router, but realistically only useable as a Mesh Wifi. Until a backup of settings is available, but does not seem to progress after rasising it years ago.

Never TP-Link again for me.

  @Riley_S hi, let me first state again that I'm happy with the backup function. Will save a lot of time in case of a device malfunction.
The data that's in the backup gives a perfect view of the devices that are being used in our network, the SSID, password and other information. As far as I can see the data is not encrypted. So when a dataleak occures this information is public available.

Would be great if backup to a USB device becomes available. However, it might be easier to download the backupfile from the app on the phone and store it wherever you want.

Thanks for your effort!

  @Riley_S We don't want to store our logins and networks on the cloud. Data leaks are occuring EVERYWHERE.

The Deco has a USB port and I would prefer to backup setting configurations there.

  @Riley_S

My specific concern with cloud backup is Data breaches.

I don't want my configs on someone else's server if I can avoid it.

Local backup is basic, standard practice for everything.

Ideally, there would be a web interface that includes the ability to save and restore via downloaded config files, and a way for the mobile app to either download or push to USB.

I just bought the BE63 mesh pair, and it never occurred to me that this basic function wouldn't be available.
