My iPad dislikes the AX3000 Wi-Fi.

Model: Archer AX3000
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.11 Build 20220526 rel.63519(5553)

For long time I have used an AX3000 along with a TD-W8968 as modem.

All my devices worked OK but recently the ADSL speed dropped, so I asked another provider to install FTTH. They installed a Huawei GPON HG8145V5. I deactivated wi-fi in the Huawei and used the wi-fi in the AX3000. All devices worked just fine: Desktop and TV using Ethernet, two iPhones, laptops and an appliance on wi-fi. But the iPad Pro refuses to connect to Internet.

Unsuccessfully I did everything I know to make the iPad access Internet. I even restored the iPad to start from scratch without success.

Then I activated the wi-fi in the old ADSL router and voila the iPad connected to Internet. Furthermore I reactivated wi-fi in the Huawei and the iPad got access to Internet as well.

In short: The iPad refuses to access Internet through the AX3000 wi-fi, but access Internet in the Huawei or the TD-W8968.

The question is: why the iPad dislikes the AX3000 wi-fi while all other devices work just fine?

The weird symptom in the iPad is in the wi-fi settings:

"IP Address" 169.254.64.175
"Subnet Mask" 255.255.0.0
"Router" (is blank)
"DNS" (is blank).

If I manually configure the IP in the iPad to 192.168.0.xxx the iPad connects to the router but still there is no Internet.

Resetting router and GPON didn't fix it.

Any idea on what's going on?

You using the SAME SSID for both units, then if so,  on the iPad FORGET the network, should fix it.

Suspect some data from the old setup is saved and used for the new one if the SSID is the same?

Thanks for your reply but no SSID are different for both units.

I have zero problems with my iPad Pro 2018 model? Nor with my iPhone 12 Pro.

I've switched routers at least 3 times on them, an A20 X55 Mesh, and now an AX55 which is also an AX3000.

Only things I could be thinking might be a cause is:

  • S S I D Channel is not one that the iPad can work with (DFS?)?
  • iPad not close enough to the router?
  • Too much interference?
  • I've never found on the Apple Store a W i f i  S S I D channel display (name can't be used it seems) that showed me S S I  D's and the channels, but you could find one maybe and see if that sees it? Even using the phone?
  • Possible Security problem, test with NONE on 5Ghz?

Works for me?

Do you see and other 5Ghz S S I D's?

Now that I think about it, you are connecting to the router/gateway.

I assume you ARE connected to the LAN though, if you have an IP Address of 169.254.64.175 I'd assume you do?

So, it is then that the iPad does CONNECT, but says no Internet Access? If so, I'd be looking at the router/F T T H that might not be allowing Internet access?

(had to use blanks to get past the 'censors' here)

SOLVED!

A friend of mine owner of a computer store sent me an Archer AX50 that he had on display. And you know what? IT WORKED OUT OF THE BOX! Of course I sent payment right away.
I can only figure out that something happened when I did a firmware update of the router. So, as soon as I have time I will see how to rollback to a previous firmware version.
