Model: Deco XE75
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

Hi all,

I just purchased the Deco XE75 2 pack and am having issues with the second "access point" (not sure what else to call it lol) delivering very slow speeds (up and down). I will do my best to explain how it is set up below and post some photos to help:

ISP: ATT FIber (1gig)

Speeds at main AP:

Wired: 800 up/down (PC)

wireless: 600 up/down (iphone)

Speed at second AP: (should be noted that using old ATT wifi extender I got 200+ up/down on these same connections using same ethernet cables)

Wired: 91 Mbs (PS5)

Wireless: 91 Mbs (iphone)

Set up:

Modem: ATT ISP provided modem (BGW210)

AP (1):

Ethernet from Modem to AP(1)

Ethernet from AP(1) to PC

Ethernet from AP(1) to wall jack

AP (2):
Wall jack to AP (2)

Ethernet to PS5 from AP(2)

Firmware on both APs has been updated

IP Passthrough has been enabled on my modem (settings in photos)

Hope this makes sense. Anyone have any thoughts??

  @Riley_S hey there. Happy to report that new Ethernet cables for all connection points solved my problem. I am now getting 650mbs on the ps5 via Ethernet and 500mbs on my iPhone via wifi.

  @Waders41,

So two things to start:

The term AP is used when the operation mode of the Deco Network is set to Access Point Mode, rather than Router Mode. While in router mode, we usually deal with main and satellite nodes. For the settings you listed above, the entire deco network should be using its default operation mode, which is router mode.

The biggest question would be: have you been able to achieve over 100Mbps through that cable before the Deco network? If the wires running throughout your home are CAT5 instead of CAT5E or above, the maximum bandwidth for that cable is 100Mbps, which lines up with what you are reporting in speeds. If you have, I would recommend changing ports on the Deco to see if the reconfiguration will cause the ports to renegotiate their speeds. If you have a switch laying around, you may want to use this to see if the switch is able to act as an intermediary between the decos, plus you could connect your PS4 directly to the main deco with a switch in this location.

Since you have a PC wired to the Deco, what statistics in terms of bandwidth and port negotiation are you given when viewing the settings for the network adapter?

I would recommend moving the Deco to an area where you can connect the Decos together with a cable that is confirmed to be at least CAT5E to see if the cable is the issue.

Also, have you been able to test if the speeds are sub-100 through a wireless backhaul to the main deco?

  @Riley_S thanks for helping me with the language. I knew AP wasnt quite right but figured it would get the point accross.

So first, yes, my previous set up was set up just like this with an ATT wifi extender plugged into the wall in my living room recieving the hardline from the main modem in the study. The wifi extender had one extra ethernet port on it that I connected to the PS5 and I dont remember the exact numbers but I know the PS5 was getting more than 100meg down so I am fairly confident that the cables in the walls are at least cat5a (house was built in 2012 so I would hope so!)

Last night I reset the system and changed the connection from the Main node to the satilite to connect via the 6mhz wifi back channel. This resulted in signifcantly increased speeds:

iphone wifi: 500 up/down

ps5 wired: 500 down, 81 up (strange lol)

I have purchased new cat7 cables that I will be replacing all the the current networking cables with to eliminate that variable and see if that fixes the problem.

I guess I could just setting and be happy with the wifi connection between the nodes, but I also have some OCD, and it is really going to bug me knowing that the hardline doesnt work properly (I want to get what I paid for lol).

Also, I did try to switch which ports the cables were plugged into to try to achieve a renegotation and still had the same results. I even did a hard reset on the system and reset it up from stock and had same results.

I do have a cheap switch laying around and will try connecting that to the wall in the living room, then running from the switch to the PS5 and satalite node seperately. This can help me confirm if the cables are an issue as well.

  @Waders41,

So bringing this to the team, the consensus is that an ethernet cable along the line is the cause of the slower speeds. If there is something wrong with the cable, whether it is being subject to electrical interference in the walls or has been damaged/degraded over time, it may not be able to properly negotiate to the 1000 Full Duplex required for gigabit connections. As you have wall connections, ensure that all the ethernet cables along the line: in the wall, and on either side of the wall plates to the deco, are using CAT5E

My team did recommend that you attempt to switch the nodes to see if the behavior changes or follows a node. If you are resetting the network, try bringing them together an connecting them with a shorter wire to see if the nodes can communicate correctly over a different wired connection.

  @Riley_S cool. Yes, so as of tomorrow, all of the outside of the wall cables will be replaced with new Cat7 cables. I am not entirely sure how I can check and/or service the lines that are in the walls so hoping that is not an issue.

I considered switching the nodes and seeing if that replicated the problem, but decided I would wait to see if new cables solves the issue first.

Will report back here in the next 36 hours on the results of switching the cables out.

If the same result happens with new cables, I will attempt to bring them together and connect directly with the supplied cable that came with the unit.

Thanks for your help so far and hopefully its as easy as new cables :)

  @Waders41,

Out of curiosity, was it one of the shorter cables, or the cable in the wall that was the cause of the problem?

Either Way, I'm glad that you are able to get it working!

  @Riley_S hey there. Nope, just replaced all the outside of the wall cables. No way to replace the in wall stuff. So yeah, just the short ones.

  @Waders41,

Glad to hear it was an easy fix. At least since you now know that those wires are CAT5E, you will be able to use them into the foreseeable feature, Unless you are looking at needing over 10Gbps speeds :)

  @Riley_S indeed! Greatly appreciate yalls help. Couldnt be happier so far with my new network. My previous problem of having my PS5 Remote Play on my phone sporatically disconnect/crash has not happened since setting up my Decos :)
