DECO X20 Ethernet Speed Drops to 24 mbps After firmware update 1.1.4 Build 20221115 Rel. 78784.

Model: Deco X20
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: firmware update 1.1.4 Build 20221115 Rel. 78784.

After updating to firmware update 1.1.4 Build 20221115 Rel. 78784 my Ethernet port on my DECO drops to 24 Mbps from 500 Mbps. If I should disconnect the cable from the modem the speed is temporarily restored to 500 Mbps, then goes right back to 24 Mbps. All was working fine prior to the firmware update. I wish TP-Link  would do something about this soonest.

  @Chappyg100

Hi, May I know your original firmware before updating to 1.1.4?

Since both firmware 1.1.3 and 1.1.1 are small versions upgrade, they are not supposed to cause any performance issues.

Here are some suggestions for your reference:

1. replace the Ethernet cable between the ISP cable modem and the main Deco X20.

2. connect the cable modem to the other Ethernet port on Deco X20.

3. change a different Deco X20 as the main Deco.

How to Setup the Satellite Deco to be the Main Deco

Wait for your reply.

Best regards.

@David-TP My initial firmware was 1.1.4. However, I had two 8  ports gigabit switch hooks up daisy chain to the Ethernet port. After removing the first one, my normal expected speed restored. Both switches are good because I have interchange them since, I just can't connect them both at the same time.

1. How many switches am I allowed to connect to one Deco port ?

2. You suggested that I should connect the modem to the other Ethernet port. I was told never to connect the modem to the LAN port. The modem should be connected to the WAN port only. Can it be connected to any port ?

@Chappyg100 Hi, thanks for the update.

There are two Ethernet ports on the main Deco X20 and due to the WAN/LAN auto-sensing feature on Deco, anyone could be used as a WAN port when connected to a modem, then the one left will be automatically recognized as a LAN port for the network switches.

There is no limitation to the connected switches behind Deco.

So currently, if I understand it correctly:

based on the following setup:

ISP modem----main Deco X20---switch1----switch2

After updating to 1.1.4,  the Ethernet speed from the switch has dropped to 24m/s from 500m/s. Removing switch 1(connecting switch 2 directly to main X20)could restore the Ethernet speed?

If yes, this issue does not sound related to the firmware upgrade to me.

Maybe you could switch the location of the two switches to see whether the speed would be reduced again.

Thank you very much.

best regards.
