Model: Archer AX20
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 4/11/2022

Hello All,

In most of the guides I've found pertaining to the AX20 and AX1800, there looks to be an option to turn wireless mode to AX or AC only.  I have turned off 2.4ghz.

In Router Mode:  Wireless Mode Options "802.11 a/g/n/ac mixed" or  "802.11 a/g/n/ac/ax mixed"

In AP Mode:   Wireless Mode Options "802.11 a/g/n/ac mixed" or  "802.11 a/g/n/ac/ax mixed"

Wireless mode that I want is 802.11 ax ONLY, or even 802.11 ac ONLY.

How do I get the option for this mode?

Thanks.

Jay.

  @QuestGuy

That's a matter of FW implementation. For example: I am using Archer AX20 v1, which has:

Make sure that you are with the latest FW release - here's the FW download page for AX20 v3. Let's hope that this option has been implemented.

  @terziyski Thanks for the response.  My firmware was updated a grand total of 2 times (currently the latest version via the routers automatic update), each time I verified there was no option for AX or AC only mode.  I have since restored my router to factory settings, and recreated the wifi settings, with no success.  Included are my wifi settings pictured, if there are any settings that prevent AX mode, let me know, however I've tried multiple security protocols as well as the transmit power/bandwidth/channels in both Router Mode and Access Point Mode.  I do believe that I am a casualty of a hardware version/firmware that is not allow me this option.

  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks.

  @QuestGuy

As I posted previously, it's a matter of FW implementation or a HW resources. I don't know what's the difference between different HW versions - most probably different chipset.

I see that you're using Tether app to manage your router. You could try the open the router administrative page through a web browser (http://tplinkwifi.net) and check if there are more options in this menu.

If there aren't and you're with the latest FW release ( Archer AX20(US)_V3_221107 - Published Date: 2022-11-17 ) then there's nothing more you can do.

  @terziyski

Thanks for the reply.  I am unfortunately not using the tether app, as its just a web browser, pointed at the tplinkwifi.net page via my mobile device wirelessly, as well as attempted hardwired via browser on a notebook.  There seems to be no option to change this feature in the settings with my V3 of the AX20 router (worst case scenario, I agree,firmware limitation).

I believe I was incredibly unlucky receiving this newer model, as I ordered this, believing the AX or AC Only wireless mode option was available in all the articles I've read for the AX20 (which did NOT identify any model variances).

The biggest difference that I've found between V3 and the models prior, is that V3 has dual processors, while the earlier, had quad, as well as possibly a chipset difference.

Thanks again for everyones help, I can only hope TP-link will add this to the future, though I believe I'm likely going looking for other hardware options now
