  @vpn123

No, the only way to secure the connection is for the clients to have the cert and config info.  At least with OpenVPN, the reccomended option.  If you want to try and use the V2 router, you may want to explore DD-WRT as it is unlikey TP-Link will add the capability in future updates.  DD-WRT does support the V2 and should provide OpenVPN support.  Just a thought.

For the clients, OpenVPN Connect is common and well supported client application.

Good luck.

  @vpn123,

Your Archer Router, actually has a built in function for OpenVPN Servers, that way you can easily connect any devices from your home network to the VPN. This is by far the easiest method of using a VPN with your home network.

AFter creating the OpenVPN server in the router settings, make sure to add the OpenVPN application to all the devices that you want to be able to connect via the VPN

  @Riley_S Must be a version issue.  I was under the same understanding, including YouTube videos on how to set OpenVPM up on the AC1700 C7.  So I picked one up on eBay.  Older unit, apparently (comes up and says C7 V2).  Anyway, it appears that it does NOT have VPM capability to host, and apparently no firmware upgrade to add it.

Did I miss something?

               thanks

  @TriSoft Yes.   Strange.   They have same model but several version.   I have a v2 and v5.    Using the v5.

I believe you would need that for OpenVPN.

  @Riley_S Thank you.    I was looking for some type of solution on the router that would not require

any changes to the clients.   I believe this solution on the router requires the clients to install/use/config

vpn software.    Is there a solution that would use vpn and not require changes to the clients?
