Model: TL-WR802N
Hardware Version: V4
Firmware Version:

I purchased a TP-Link N300 (TL-WR802N) and an AC1200 Router.

I wanted to connect the N300 to my ATT Hotspot, then plug the N300 into my AC1200 and then plug in multiple wired network devices into the AC1200.

I dont know which mode to set the N300 in.

Also, I cant seem to get the N300 to connect to the ATT Hotspot. ATT uses WPS security only and that doesnt seem to work with the N300, it wants WEP.

Thanks,

Kirk

Hello @KirkDickinson

Which operation mode did you choose when you tried to connect to the ATT Hotspot, Client mode, or Hotspot router mode?

I guess you may try to configure the WR802N in Hotspot router mode if you haven't tried yet, please check the guide below to configure it:

How to Configure the Hotspot Router Mode on the TL-WR802N

  @Kevin_Z Thanks for responding to my post.

I tried Client mode most recently. I had tried Range extender mode too. In neither mode did the TL-WR802N find the ATT hotspot. I did make my iPhone available as a hotspot and it sees that, but not the ATT hotspot. I am wondering if the ATT hotspot is too old? The hotspot looks like this

5aaf7441cbd84b16ad182a98de589109

and the article that references it is dated 2015.

I have an older TL-WR802N that I used at the other house to connect a Verizon Jetpack to my plex server. That was a quick and simple process, but I was basically using it as a bridge between the Jetpack and the plex server which lacks WiFi capability.

We have a house with several levels and thick walls... the WiFi can't seem to get through the walls. All the devices have ethernet run from a central location. My thought was to use the TL-WR802N to connect the hotspot to a real router then out on CAT5 to all the devices. Also the AC1200 is has better wifi than most because of the antennas.

I will work through the instructions at the link you sent. This is really not what I want though. I don't want the devices connected by WiFi but though CAT5.

  @KirkDickinson

You should be able to get it working in Client Mode (wireless bridge).

ATT (((wireless))) TL-WR802N <--ehternet--> AC1200 ((((wireless)))

                                                                      ^---ehternet--> devices

The AC1200 should be setup as a wireless AP.

However, getting connected to the ATT hotpspot without using WPA2 vice WPS looks like your sticking point that needs to be addressed with hotpot manufacturer.  Is the SSID broadcast from the hotspot?  Is their a web GUI you can log into to set a paswword for WPA2 connections?

It looks like the password and SSID are on the front screen of the device.  In client mode, just plug those setting into the wirelss tab on TL-WR802N.
