Model: Deco S4
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

Hi,

I have a DECO S4 mesh and up until now it was used in ROUTER MODE while the router provided by the ISP was in bridge mode. The main DECO was next to the ISP ROUTER and the other 2 throughout the house.

Recently the ISP ROUTER was upgraded (to a WIFI6 one) and the new one does not have bridge mode.

I kept my mesh in ROUTER Mode and currently have my main DECO connected to the ISP ROUTER, and disabled the wifi capability on the ISP ROUTER. However, this still causes issues due to double NAT.

I want to explore the option of using DECO as AP, just need a few clarifications to make sure i got this right.

1.Does DECO still have a network/SSID or will it use the ISP ROUTER one? will roaming still work - as in, does the ISP ROUTER be part of the mesh?

2. Can I set my DECO to AP mode, keep WIFI disabled on ISP ROUTER and only use it for wired network, while DECO handles the WIFI? would all my devices be on the same network (if i have one devicewired to ISP ROUTER and another device wired to one of the DECOs)

Hope the above made sense.

Thank you

Welcome to the community and the following information would help:

1. When Deco is in Access point mode, Deco will have its own SSID and the roaming still works between Deco units, the wireless network of the ISP router would not be part of the Mesh.

2. So you already found the best configuration: set the DECO to AP mode, keep WIFI disabled on ISP ROUTER, and only use it for wired network, while DECO handles the WIFI.

And all the devices will get IP addresses from the ISP router and under the same network.

Thank you.

Best regards.

Hey David, thanks for confirming, just one last question on this setup: keep WIFI disabled on ISP ROUTER, and only use it for wired network, while DECO handles the WIFI. Would there also be a different LAN? what i mean by that is, if I plug in my PC ethernet straight into the ISP ROUTER would it recognize and communicate with other devices connected on the WIFI / or ethernet from the DECO? I'm asking because for now i have my main DECO backhaul via ethernet with my office DECO, from the office DECO i have ethernet cable to my PC. But due to limited ethernet ports on DECO i might need to use the ISP ROUTER for other connections (main DECO is already full, one port for ISP ROUTER, one for ethernet backhaul). Thank you!

  @tuzzy

They are still under the same LAN network and the wired devices from the main router are able to communicate with the devices from Deco.

Best regards.
