Wired is the best option but not always available. Next is using just one router in most cases if you can get the coverage you need. Next is a true MESH system. An AP would be next, then maybe a router and extender that has OneMesh, and then the router and extender.

I have a dead spot in my house so I use a non-OneMesh router and extender combo since I do not need my top speed in that area. I prefer separate SSIDs so I can control which devices are attached to each network.

IMHO if you want same SSID/Password for your entire network, go with a true MESH system.

Note: Do not by a OneMesh router and extender unless both already has that capability as others have found out the future plans did not pan out for some of the routers previously slated for OneMesh.

oneMesh works between a router and an extender, not two routers per TP Link web site.

So you need only one of the routers and you need to get an extender. Two TP Link routers will not work together unlike some other brands.

@ArcherC8 on the extenders there is an ethernet port is that so you can wire back to router or just an extra port? If so Am I better off hard wiring them?

It is set up via WIFI. The key is to place extenders as close to the router as possible and get the results you want. Do not place it in the dead area.

I do not see that as an option in the user guides I looked at. See the user guide for the one you are considering.

AP is different than OneMesh.
