Hello,

I'm facing a bit of a hurdle with the parental control functionality.

What appears to be happening is that duplicate devices are showing up in my client list with a different Mac address, so the parental control device configuration I set up doesn't apply anymore. I'm wondering if it's perhaps my son changing the Mac address of his network card to sabotage my configuration. :)

Has anyone seen this issue and can you tell me how to control it?

Hi,

yes, so I just learned about a privacy feature called 'MAC address randomization', which is available on iOS, Android and Windows 10 devices.

This is the cause for the duplicated devices.

So tip for everyone who would like to use Parental Control Profiles: You need to turn off MAC address randomization or this feature is useless.

Here instructions to turn this feature off:

On Windows 10:

How to Disable MAC Randomization in Windows 10

Select the 'Start' button in the bottom left corner of the screen.
Select the gear icon to go to 'Settings'
Select 'Network and Internet'
Select 'Wifi'
Set 'Use random hardware addresses' to 'Off'

On iPhone:

Disabling MAC Randomization

Open the Settings on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod, then tap Wi-Fi or WLAN.
Tap the information button next to your network.
Turn off Private Address.
Re-join the network.
