So yesterday i was able to hook up my s4. Connected it to the modem, set up the other hubs around the house without incident. Then i get to connecting the the ethernet switch to the one decor. it seemed to crash the network so i unplugged it, network came back on with no problem . when i plugged a single device into the ethernet switch it worked. the switch is a tp link tlsg10e. hopefully i can get this figured out before i have to send this back

Sounds like you may have a network loop happening when wiring the devices.
