With the way I have them wired right now, both switches work independently of each other, but if one is turned on, the other will not operate turn off.  They both turn the light on without any problem, but you can only turn them off fromt he switch that turned them on.  I'm sure it's a simple wiring mistake, but I've tried just about every combination I could think of, but nothing has worked so far.  Any suggestions would be great!  Thanks!

@Nickp001 do you have pictures of the wiring with the dumb switches?

@B.Will You'd think I would have learned by now, but no, I didn't take any before pictures.  I do this all the time.  But fortunately your suggestion reminded me that I simply snipped the wires to get the old switches out and left a small piece of wire attached to the switch.  just as good as a picture.  I was able to replicate the wiring on the new switches and everything works like a charm.  Thanks for the suggestion.
