"underlines" in password
Hi Everyone. Just bought this range extender N300 TL-WA855RE. I am setting this up with the app on my Iphone. I hit a snag when the app asked me to create a password for a local account "... using letters, digits and underlines". About underlines, after some research, i don't see a way to have underlined characters in a password as in abcd1234 . Any suggestion?
Thanks in advance.

I spoke to support as I phone will not let you do an underline whilst creating a password (even though it will let you in a text or in notes)
they advised just use 10 numbers instead!! And it worked 😊

@Gotalot Hello everyone,
The 'underline' means underscore, which is not necessary for creating a login password, numbers and letters are safe enough as login password for the range extender. ( please avoid using special symbols when create login password for RE, or this warning may pop up)
Make sure your Tether app is up-to-date as the new version APP should have removed this hint when creating login password for RE.
If you could not log into Range extender on Tether or Web, try a factory reset on RE and create a new login password :
Reset: with the RE powered on, use a pin to press the reset hole until all the Leds flash once
If you still have the ' underline' note on the Tether app, may I know the hardware version of your range extender on the back label, and your Tether app version, thank you.

I'm not sure about underlines, usually the local account password creation mentions letters, numbers, and symbols so I would probably ignore the underline.
Now when you create a wireless network name, in that you can use an underline for example:
mywifi_ext
So in creating a login for the extender, use numbers, letters, symbols. When creating a wireless network, that is where you can use underlines.

@Maounde I'm having the same issue and it will not let me create an account without using an underline in the password (which is not posisble on an iphone app). How did you resolve this?

I thought I had it solved, but no. I am still stuck. Seems silly to deal with such an issue that a customer experience manager should have flaged.
I am considering returning the device, unfortunately.

@walker44 I hate to put this online, but since it is impacting everyone...the solution is to keep the password very simple. So much for security

I am trying to create a password on my iphone and it is saying "Please enter 1 to 15 characters using letters, digits and underlines". I am unsure how to "underline" a password as I have been using under-scores and it is not working. I have tried many variables and am beyond frustrated. Were you able to solve this?

@walker44 can you explain what you have to do? Or is it very complicated? Customer service isn't open today

@Maounde I ran into the same issue when trying to set up my extender via the Tether app. I was able to get around this by setting my account up via my PC. Once connected to the device I went to http://tplinkrepeater.net. From there instead of using my own password, I just used the suggested password and was able to successfully create my account. Hope this helps
