Do a factory default extender by holding the reset button for 15 seconds while it is plugged in. After the extender reboots, you should see the default wireless network that has the name of TP-Link. If no default network is ever seen, it may be bad.
If the default network does show up, proceed to set up the extender again as having a single LED light means it is no longer connected to the router.
I did that several times in several different outlets\locations......ugh
I work from home & will get written up if I don't have wifi........ugh
