WDS lets me reach root router but not internet access
Hi TP-Link community,
I've followed the instructions listed here to try and extend my wireless range downstairs: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1083/
But even though WDS is enabled (shows "WDS Status: Run" on the Advanced -> Status page), and DHCP on the bridging router is disabled, I can only ping the root router and bridging router; I don't have internet access.
Any ideas? Root router is a Netgear R7000, and the bridging router is this TP-Link Archer C8.
Here is the result of pinging the bridging router (192.168.1.2), and the root router (192.168.1.1):
moi@moi-surface:~$ ping -c 4 192.168.1.2

Update: If within Windows' network settings I manually specify the IP address (I set it to the same as the automatically-assigned one), subnet mask (255.255.255.0), and default gateway (this one I changed from the automatically assigned 192.168.1.2 to the root router's 192.168.1.1), I have internet access!
But how do I make this process automatic? I don't want to configure the default gateway for every device that tries to connect to the extended network.
