Unfortunately, they are two different routers so no config file can be transferred.

Best you can do is put two computers side by side with a router attached to each. Then go through the settings, especially good is you have reserved addresses, port forwarding, and such where you need to transfer MAC addresses and port numbers.

Thanks, is it possible to take both units offsite configure and bring them back, it's not a good space to spend any time.

Also the modem cable connecting to the WRT54G is really short, it's in a tight closet where the AC4000 won't fit, once we replace. What do you think of getting an unmanaged giga switch, to take that input, then connect the AC4000 to the switch from outside the closet?

You do not need to be hooked up to the internet to get to the UI of the router. Plug in the Ethernet cable between the router and the PC. Then log on to the router using the IP address of the router (192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 is the most common).

Thanks!  AC4000 won't fit in closet space. Can we connect modem input in closet to   unmanaged giga switch, another port to AC4000 outside the closet?

I assume you are trying to go from the modem to a switch then to your router and you plan on hooking other devices up to the unmanaged switch. It will not work for most ISPs as you get only one IP address. It sounds like the issue is that you have cables in the closet for other devices but no room for the router. Then you need to run a cable from the modem to the outside router and another cable back to the unmanaged switch in the closet which has all of the other devices wired to the switch. Be sure to use good high quality cables and connectors. Would you have room in the closet for router if you moved the modem to outside of the closet? The router WIFI should perform better if it was outside the closet based on location and all.

@ArcherC8

Hi, modem is outside the building, 5e cable from it goes through roof, walls & into closet. 5 e is so short in closet, the router has to be located there too, We were thinking of just putting an unmanaged switch with one port to the modem and anothe to Archer AC4000 outside closet. This would essentially extend the limited length 5e, we would then use the ac4000 ports for the other devices. So would the switch work as a simple 5e line extender? Thanks

If you need a simple connector to connect two Ethernet cables and if not a real long run google "female - female Ethernet connector" as you should not need a powered switch. Looking at the ratings on Amazon show many are satisfied with them.
