@JohnCW How did you manage to install 2.7 on an 8630? I have a UK 8630P and it doesn't allow upgrading via other than a BIN file through either tpPLC or the Web GUI. I think you are using the US model without passthrough - does this support PIB/NVM firmware updates?

Sorry for any confuion. If I wrote 8630 I meant 8030. When i tried to install 2.7 on the 8030 it bricked the device. i went back and re-installed 2.6 which is what I am using now.

You need a .pib file for the 8630P V2 to update the PLC part of the device. You may try to flash it using one of the .pib's of the V1 that is on the dropbox file repository I made. Try any of them with lower version firmware's first, like 2.4 or 2.6.
Or if you prefer, and I think this is actually the better route, you can simply make a backup of your device .pib using the tool on the repository ( the instructions are very simple, just connect the device to the computer and run a .bat file ) and then use that .pib to flash your device with an updated PLC firmware.

@turboleak WPA8630P (UK version) doesn't accept PIB or NVM files for update through either tpPLC or the Web GUI, only BIN files. THere doesn't appear to be a way to update the PLC firmware, only the AP part, unless someone knows of a different tool.
I downloaded the firmware update for the WPA8630P UK version from https://www.tp-link.com/uk/support/download/tl-wpa8630p/v2/#Firmware
This contains a BIN file named wpa8630pv2_eu-up-ver2-0-3-P1-20171018-rel36564.bin
This file can be opened in 7-Zip and looks like a Linux filesystem to me. It doesn't seem to contain any PIB or NVM files.

what do you mean by "it doesn't accept pib and nvm files trought tpPLC?" does it fail when you select the 8630P V1 pib and a 2.4 or any other nvm firmware file?
The bin file you refer to is to update the wifi portion of the 8630P, and this is done using the web interface of the device. It is indeed a linux based operating system.

@turboleak In tpPLC if you go to the Update screen for a WPA8630P V2 (or WPA7510 V2) you get this:
The update screen for a PL8010P looks like this:
I can't find any way of updating NVM and PIB on a WPA8630P V2 or WPA7510 V2.
This is using tpPLC Utility 2.2.3149.12 on Windows 10.

wow, that's interesting. It seems that they changed the chipset on the WPA8630P V2 UK version from a qualcomm to a broadcom chipset, or maybe their utiliy is simply detecting the WPA8630P V2 and not displaying the menu for the .nvm and .pib.
Maybe if you try an older tplink utility ( on the recovery/utility folder ) you can see if the older utility detects the adapter and allows you to specify pib and nvm files.
Another way is to try to backup the .pib file using the backup utility. if you can back it up, then the chipset is a qualcomm and it must accept .pib and nvm files.
Regarding the older flash utility, the device to be flashed must be connected directly to the pc and in port 1. See photos on the folder. Same for backing up the .pib.

I ran the older Utility from your Recover/Utility folder, which will allow me to upgrade firmware fpr the WPA device I am connected to by WiFi. However it now is asking for a GGL file:
According to https://wikidevi.wi-cat.ru/TP-LINK_TL-WPA8630P_v2 it uses Qualcom not Broadcom. I haven't got a Linux PC to connect to the Ethernet port unfortunately...

It doesn't need to be a linux pc. you can connect the ethernet port to a windows pc. the utility to make a backup of the ..pib file is compiled for windows.

I can't understand if those firmwares do work on TL-WPA8630 hardware version 2.0.
