Adding my name to the list. My router was dropping my speed from 215 mbps to 30 mbps every 6 hours until a complete reboot of my system. I called tech support and they were an absolute disaster. I decided to do a firmware upgrade through the portal, which seemed to work. However, the system refuses to let me log into the router manager, giving me a blank webpage with the message "No such file or directory." The only way around that was to do a reset using the tiny hole in the back. Then it lets me log in for about 10 minutes, and then kicks me out any time I save any settings, witih the same error message. From what I saw though, my CPU usage was 95% consistently. Max speed during that time was 110 mpbs instead of 215.

Checked with HQ, the spike in CPU is being attributed to a display issue in which the actual percentage is lower.

There will be firmware aimed at resolving this.

In the mean time if you feel your router is having issues please contact our technical support.

Concerns can certainly be expressed here until the firmware is released, but that is what we have as far as information.

Hi, this is JoeG, the original author of this thread.

Since 6/8/2019 Tp-Link has been aware of this problem and has yet to offer a new firmware upgrade which fixes it.

Tp-Link says that the problem is purely cosmetic, where the CPU indicator shows high usage, only the display is incorrect, the CPU load is fine.

Others have reported that there may be additional problems with their bandwith being cut.

I find it remarkable that Tp-Link has not fixed this problem, BUT in the mean time, you should download the firmware 1.0.9 dated 2019-04-15,

and install it. I have been using it for months now, and it works fine.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestion to downgrade to the previous firmware as it has solved the high cpu problem with the loss of connectivity.

Can anyone confirm the new version of firmware fixed the CPU load issue? There is no mention of it in the release notes.

Also confirm that the annoying CPU “red-lining” has disappeared with latest FW update...ran a speedcheck with Ookla and confirmed download @ 400mbts per service tier (Comcast).  Interestingly enough, the previous version also allowed spec’d tier speeds, although other users reported significant slowdown of downloads.

Thanks.  I was reading of people having issues not rolling each firmware update, one-by-one.  Did you install each incremental firmware version or did you "skip" the bad version and go right to this one?
